Sunscreen, 4 Tips for Choosing the Right One

Your skin can suffer severe damage if you are exposed to the sun for long periods of time without the protection of an appropriate sunscreen. Some of these damages are extreme burns, wrinkles, spots, and even developing skin cancer. Here are some tips for choosing the right sunscreen.

What is the sun protection factor?

The sun protection factor (SPF) is the number that appears on the front of the package and indicates the protection percentage of UVB. Keep in mind that a sunscreen with SPF 30 offers 93% of protection, and one with SPF 50 offers around 98% protection.

Recommendations

Avoid sunscreens containing ingredients such as parabens or preservatives that may cause skin allergies.

Pay attention to the label of each product and make sure it is suitable for you.

Waterproof sunscreen is recommended if you want to swim for a few hours. Remember to reapply the sunscreen when you are out of the water.

How long can we be exposed to the sun?

The number of hours you will spend outside and your skin type are things to consider when buying a sunscreen. If your skin is fair and you plan to stay out for more than 3 hours in the sun, choose a sunscreen with SPF 50+. Fair skin tones are the most prone to damage from sun exposure.
