Heavy Menstrual Periods

Almost all women have experienced a painful and heavy menstrual period at some point in their life. According to medical specialists, if this occurs several times, it is necessary to consult with a doctor to determine what the cause is.

What is a Heavy menstrual period?

  • It is considered a heavy menstrual period if, when using a tampon or hygienic towel; it ends up completely soaked in less than 2 hours.
  • Menstrual bleeding has blood clots.
  • The period lasts more than 7 days.
  • The period interferes with your daily activities.

If you identify some of these conditions in your menstrual period, keep in mind the possible causes:

Fibroids:

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that occur in women of childbearing age and develop on the inner or outer part of the uterine wall. Some of the symptoms of this condition are swelling or pressure in the abdomen, lower back pain, heavy periods, and cramping.

Endometriosis:

Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus – the endometrium – grows outside of it.

Hormone Imbalance:

An imbalance in estrogen and progesterone levels may be causing a heavy menstrual period.
